It’s time to prepare for another spectacular Tyrone Area School District musical production.
Auditions for Tyrone Area School District’s production of the musical You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown were held on Thursday, February 10 in the TASD auditorium. Auditions were open to students in grades nine through twelve.
A list of the cast will be printed in an upcoming edition of The Daily Herald.
Based on the Charles Schultz popular comic strip, this “gentle, wise, very cheering entertainment”, as quoted from The New York Times, chronicles the events in a day-in-the-life of Charlie Brown, his dog Snoopy, and their friends, Lucy, Sally, Linus and Schroeder.
Also, in the TASD production there will be a musical chorus of approximately 30 students, who will not only sing and dance, but will also be a huge part of the technical aspects of the musical.
According to the school production’s technical director, Ed Kuhstos, for more than 50 years, the world has laughed, sighed and identified with Charlie Brown and his Peanuts friends through comics, television and stage. Clark Gesner wrote the original play, music and lyrics. In its Broadway revival of 1999, the production was re-imagined by the creative team of Michael Mayer and Andrew Lippa, with the blessing of Mr. Schultz.
Kuhstos added that the new version received four Tony nominations: Best Revival of a Musical, Best Director, Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Roger Bart, Snoopy) and Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Kristin Chenowith, Sally).
He said this truly is a brand new look at the wildly popular show, and it will be entertainment the whole family can enjoy.
At the helm of the TASD production are Karen Volpe, an Altoona resident who will serve as director; Kuhstos, of Tyrone will be technical director and TASD’s fine arts department chair Cathy Young will serve as musical director. Each has their own area of expertise to offer the students to make this production a success.
Kuhstos said everyone in the area should mark their calendars so they can come and enjoy another “over the top” musical production by the Tyrone Area School District.
Show dates are scheduled for Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. each night.
