While Tyrone Borough continues to work on the renovation process at the community pool at Reservoir Park, it also has been making plans for the upcoming pool season.
At a recent council meeting, plans were presented by interim Borough Manager Sharon Dannaway. The plans were designed to help increase attendance this season at the pool.
Dannaway suggested a major project which entailed a manned concession stand rather than vending machines. In her report to council, she said the project would incorporate the use of ticket takers as vendors at a concession stand. In her report to council she attached a price list which she said reflected “a reasonable price along with a reasonable profit.”
Dannaway also presented information on “splash hops” for the area’s young people. She said the splash hops would give young people something to do and have fun at the same time.
She said the borough was planning to have five splash hops during the season. The cost of the events would be $3 and season tickets would not apply. Those holding the season tickets would have to pay the fee. The splash hops would be open to those in the eighth through 12th grades from 5 to 8 p.m. on selected Saturdays during the season. Dannaway noted if someone leaves the splash hop event they are not allowed to re-enter the pool facility.
The schedule lists June 11 and 25, July 9 and 23 and August 23 as “splash hop” Saturdays.
Dannaway also outlined another project for the pool would be renting it for private parties such as birthdays or reunions. Wednesdays during the season, the pool would close to the public at 6 p.m.
Council decided the private parties would run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost for the two-hour minimum was listed at $150 with a $75 non-refundable deposit. However, bad weather would be taken into consideration for refunds. The maximum number of people for private parties was set at 50.
The Wednesday evening rentals are on a first come, first serve basis. Those renting the facilities would be permitted to bring food such as cake, ice cream, finger foods, soda, etc. No grilling would be permitted. The private group could also request the concession stand be open, otherwise the stand would not be open during private parties.
The available dates as of March 14 were June 8, 15, 22, 29, July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3 and 10.
The pool will be opened Memorial Day weekend, Saturday May 28 through Monday, May 30. The pool would then be open full-time on Monday June 6 through sometime after the Labor Day weekend.
For more information about use of the pool and season tickets the public should contact the Borough of Tyrone offices at 684-1330.
