Tyrone men defeat Southern Huntingdon to open season

The Golden Eagle track team christened a brand new field Tuesday with a win over visiting Southern Huntingdon. With wins in 11 of 18 events and sweeping all three places in 3, the Eagles opened their 2005 season with a 100-50 win over the Rockets, sealing the coaching staff’s confidence for a successful season all around.
Multiple event winners for Tyrone include Billy Dean (100 dash, 200 dash and long jump) and Trey Brockett (high jump, triple jump.) Single winners were Aaron Houck (1600 meter run), Donnie Conrad (400 meter dash), Ketrow (pole vault) and Adam Shaffer (javelin.)
Finally, the relay teams of Nathan Barber, Houck, Eric Sweet and Ethan Nulton (3200 meter) and that of Dean, Brockett, Shane Barr and Leonard Wilson (400 meter) finished off the long list of wins for the men’s squad.
The Lady Eagles dropped the meet to the Lady Rockets, finishing strong at 74-76. The fight for the win was ongoing, coming down to a single deciding point in the 400 meter dash. The Lady Eagles took 10 of 18 events, sweeping all three places in the long jump. Junior Emily Lloyd pulled in four firsts for the girls in the 110 and 300 hurdles, long jump and triple jump along with strong showings from returning lettermen
Emily Ingle (1600 meter, 800 meter) and Marissa Hoover (shot put, javelin). Other winners include Liz Tepsic (high jump) and the relay team of Samantha Friday, Ingle, Ketrow and Hoover (1600 meter.)
When asked to comment on his team’s strong season opener, Tyrone Head Coach Tony Yaniello replied that he was “pleased with the turnout of our first meet, especially because we’ve been off since last Thursday due to bad weather,” and adding that he “looks for the girls to have a good, strong season.”
Tyrone meets Bald Eagle Area and Bishop Guilfoyle in a dual meet on April the 4th, home at 4 PM.
