Today, Tyrone is hosting 128 sixth grade students from 28 schools in Blair, Bedford, Cambria and Somerset counties for the 2005 District 6 Band Fest.
The annual band festival features selected sixth grade students from the schools in District 6 for a one day rehearsal and public concert.
The participants are selected by their home band directors and then receive a folder of music to prepare for the event. The students will join together on stage to rehearse with Dr. Linda Thornton, professor of Instrumental Music Education at the Pennsylvania State University School of Music.
The day will culminate with a public concert in the high school auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students, children under five are admitted for free.
“Events such as this are offered as part of PMEA’s (Pennsylvania’s Music Educators Association) to promote music performance and education to students of all ability levels, while offering them a chance to meet students from other area school districts,” said Kris Laird, Tyrone Band Director and host of the festival.
“It is amazing to hear and see the final product of so many young musicians.”
The Tyrone students participating are: Hannah Biddle, Montana Peightal, Adam Stager, Trevor Jackson, Laura Lehner, Fred Zanghi, Matt Wolfe and Amber Morrisey.
