A fatal crash occurred last night at 11:42 p.m., approximately three miles north of Spruce Creek in Franklin Township.
The car was driven by 23-year-old Jason Crowell of Tyrone. There were three passengers in the vehicle, Sharon Reed, 18, Duane Day, 23 and a 16-year-old male, all of Tyrone.
The crash occurred as the 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling east on SR45. Crowell was operating the vehicle and failed to negotiate a sweeping left curve and left the roadway off the south berm, striking the embankment.
The car then struck several guide rail posts, ejecting Reed and Day through the rear windshield. The vehicle came to final rest facing west.
Reed was pronounced dead at the scene by Huntingdon County Coroner Ron Morder. Crowell, Day and the juvenile were all treated at Altoona Hospital with moderate injuries. Alcohol is believed to have played a factor.
Warriors Mark and Alexandria Fire Departments, Tyrone, Juniata Valley and AMED ambulances assisted at the scene. Officials are still investigating.
