Bellwood-Antis welcomed Southern Huntingdon to the George O. Martin girls softball on Monday. Southern Huntingdon and Lady Blue Devils were wrapped up in a close contest for the first two innings, but the Lady Rockets quickly closed the door on the Bellwood-Antis girls by scoring 13 times in the top of the third to put the 15-run mercy rule into effect and post an 18-0 victory.
Senior catcher Charlie Burns singled to lead off the second inning for the Lady Blue Devils only base hit. After Kerstin Myers flied out, Jenn Bilka hit into a fielder’s choice to eliminate Burns and Lady Rocket pitcher Erica Hockenberry struck out Karlie Rogers to end the inning.
“Southern Huntingdon is a very good softball team. They have a lot of good athletes,” said Bellwood-Antis coach Alex Sitman. “But we walked in a ton of runs and were never able to get out of the hole.”
B-A freshman Courtney Hamer struck out one and walked nine batters.
Lady Rocket pitcher E. Hockenberry set the Lady Blue Devils down on one single, over three at bats, while striking out three and not walking a batter to pick up the win.
On offense, Lacie Snyder collected three hits and Renee Schmidt, Emily Wible and Amy Woodward each had two base hits to lead Southern Huntingdon.
Bellwood-Antis (1-15) travels to West Branch today and then will host Tyrone on Monday. Both games will start at 4:30 p.m.
