The non-profit organization, the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Tyrone Lodge No. 212, is hosting its Fourth Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 25.
There is a scheduled shotgun start of 9 a.m. at the Sinking Valley Golf Course. The format will be a four-man scramble.
Another tournament is scheduled for September 11, with the same times and same format.
Cost of the tournament is $65 per person, which includes golf, cart and dinner. The price per team is $260. There will be a scratch and handicap division.
According to a press release from the Tyrone Elks, the organization plays an important role in the life of area youth from Tyrone, Bellwood, Huntingdon and surrounding areas. The Tyrone Elks supports numerous activities for youth throughout the year.
“Children are our primary focus, their health and well-being as well as mental and physical needs,” explained the press release. “Our major project every year continues to be the Elks Home Service program. We provide in-home medical care and support to children afflicted with Cerebral Palsy on a local, state and national basis. B.P.O.E.’s across our state work hard every year to fund this program.”
The Tyrone Elks also sponsors sporting events among the youth such as the basketball “hoop shoot” in which children between the ages of eight and 13 are welcome to compete.
The organization promotes sportsmanship not only through hoop shoots but also through Elks-sponsored teams in soccer, little league and teener league baseball, and even an annual powder puff football game for junior and senior girls.
The Tyrone Elks also hosts an annual Youth Recognition banquet to honor young athletes.
The Elks steps up to the challenge of combating drug use among young people through the National Drug Awareness campaign as well.
Elks members remain committed to the motto, “The youth of today are our leaders of tomorrow.”
Therefore, the Tyrone Elks supports academic achievement with a “Spotlight on Youth” award each month where the organization recognizes students at the high school level that exemplifies their commitment to academia. Elks scholarships are awarded annually to deserving students interested in continuing their education after high school.
The Tyrone Elks also supports various senior citizen’s groups by a commitment to the nation’s veterans both locally and nationally, and to the local Senior Golden Games event.
The motto of the Elks is, \”Elks care, Elks share.”
The annual golf tournament is one of two major fundraisers the Tyrone Elks holds each year in order to continue to support its numerous charitable programs.
The tournament has grown each year through the support and generosity of local businesses and organizations. The Tyrone Elks is also currently seeking tournament sponsors through monetary donations and/or prize donations.
If an interested individual needs someone to pick up a prize donation, contact the lodge to make arrangements.
Make all checks payable to: Tyrone Elks Home Service Fund.
