In a roster move announced Monday, catcher Ronny Paulino has been promoted from the Altoona Curve to Triple-A Indianapolis. Paulino will fill the roster spot in Indianapolis vacated by Ryan Doumit, who was recalled by Pittsburgh Saturday night. The 24-year old backstop hit .292 with 6 HR, 20 RBI and a team-leading 18 multi-hit contests in 43 games with the Curve this season. Paulino, who was named to the Eastern League’s Post-Season All-Star Team in 2004, after having a breakout year hitting .285 with career highs in homers (15) and RBI (60), is a member of the Pirates’ 40-man roster.
Paulino originally was signed by the Pirates as a non-drafted free aganet in 1997 and was a Rule Five pick by the Royals in 2002, who was returned to Pittsburgh in 2003 in spring training.
Catcher Chris Snusz has been activated to fill Paulino’s spot on the Curve’s 23-man roster.
