The logjam at the top cleared a bit in Tyrone Youth Baseball Association action this past week. Rick Day Construction (5-4), which had been tied with Gardner’s Candies, dropped two games, while Gardner’s (7-2) emerged the solo leader with two wins. Elks (2-7) upset Rick Day and forced Gardner’s to come from behind in their final at bat to edge Elks by a single tally. Ferguson’s Pest Control (4-5) split a pair of contests, defeating Rick Day Construction and dropping a decision to Gardner’s Candies.

Gardner’s Candies opened up the action on Thursday hitting on all cylinders by scoring in every inning to tag Ferguson’s with a 14-0 loss.
Justin Spanik and Jacob Belinda sparked the Candy crew with three hits each, Robby Marlett started things off with a three-run first-inning home run and Spanik, Jordan Faretta and Tyler Osterhout all drove in two runs.
Jesse Shaffer had the only hit for Ferguson’s.
John Kimberling and Belinda combined to shut out FPC, striking out five and neither walked a batter.
Seth Barrett took the loss for Ferguson’s Pest Control.

Elks 10 Rick Day Construction 9
Elks had to come from behind on the late game Thursday, after falling behind 4-0 to post a 10-9 triumph over Rick Day Construction.
Kaleb Chronister, Justin Miller, Jarred Shaffer and Ryan Isenberg all contributed two hits and Andrew Warrender scored three times for Elks. Chronister and Miller knocked in three runs.
Jeremy Miller belted three doubles and a single, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs in a losing cause for Rick Day.
Derrick Emigh pitched the final two innings for Elks to pick up the win, while Richard Crabtree took the loss.

Gardner’s Candies 10 Elks 9
Fresh from a win over Rick Day Construction, Elks nearly pulled off their second upset of the week, forcing first place Gardner’s Candies to score twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome Elks 10-9 on Thursday in the early game.
Derrick Emigh, Kaleb Chronister and Josh Loose each had two hits for Elks and Chronister had a huge day in the run production category, driving in a league-best four RBI, including belting a two-run home run in the third inning.
Jordan Faretta nearly matched Chronister for Gardner’s with two hits, two runs scored and three RBI. Faretta had a double and John Kimberling cracked a triple for the winners.
Elks took a 7-2 lead in the top of the fourth, but Gardner’s came right back to outshoot Elks 8-2 over their last three at bats for the victory.
Jacob Belinda picked up the win, striking out five and walking four, pitching the last three innings.
Derrick Emigh was saddled with the loss going one inning.

Ferguson’s Pest Control 12 Rick Day Construction 5
The top of Ferguson’s pest Control took control of the late game on Thursday night, combining for eight hits and six runs in a 12-5 win over Rick Day Construction. Ferguson’s scored in each of the first five innings to build a 10-1 advantage and coasted to the win.
Jesse Shaffer and Johnny Romano each clubed home runs in a big five-run fourth inning for Ferguson’s.
Seth Barrett, Jesse Shaffer, Korry Cowher and Jimmy Ferguson each banged out a pair of hits for Ferguson’s. Barrett scored three times and Shaffer, Mark Roth and Joey Miller twice each in the win.
Matt Myers and Jeremy Miller each had two hits for Rick Day.
Jimmy Ferguson went the distance for the win for FPC, striking out eight and walking five. Richard Crabtree took the loss for Rick Day, fanning four and walking one.
