A 17-month old boy died over the weekend after he drowned in the Little Juniata River near where his family was camping.
State police in Huntingdon and the Blair County Coroner’s office investigated the Saturday morning incident near the Blair-Huntingdon County line about two-tenths of a mile east of State Route 453 below Birmingham.
Police said the boy, Caydin Scott Morrissey, and his family were camping along the Little Juniata River. Sometime between 6 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, the boy wandered away from a tent and was later found in the river. Morrissey was taken to Tyrone Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:10 a.m.
An autopsy was performed on Sunday and Blair County Coroner Patricia Ross ruled the death accidental. Ross said her report would be forwarded to the district attorney’s office.
Morrissey was the son of Shawn Alan Morrissey and Jessica Lee Sprankle of Warriors Mark. Services will be held today at 7 p.m. at the Feller Memorial Home with visitation from 4 p.m. until the time of the services. A complete obituary appears on page 2.
