The Tyrone Area High School varsity cheerleaders are busy getting ready for the season’s first football game between Tyrone Area and Bellwood-Antis High Schools.
However, before school started, the varsity cheerleaders were busy attending the U.C.A. cheerleading camp at Juniata College.
According to cheerleading coach Tracy Detwiler, the camp lasted three days and started at 8 a.m. and ended at 8:30 p.m. everyday.
The cheerleaders came home with numerous awards and trophies. The awards consisted of seven superior ribbons which were received over the three days. On the last day, at the awards ceremony, the girls received first place home pom routine, first place camp cheer, best mascot, third place camp dance routine and the traditions award.
The cheerleading squad consists of: captain, Brittany Harpster; co-captain, Cynda Ormsby; Michelle Jenning, Ashley Ripka, Melissa Davis, Casie Glashauser, Paige Stott, Chelsea Swayne, Danielle Winkleman, Angel Light, Katie Brinkman, Brittany Detwiler, Alexis Murray, Jessica Markel, Chelsey Markel, Liz Romano, Shawna McCloskey and Danielle Koback.
The girls also had a chance to try out for the U.C.A. All Stars. Tyrone was the only school where all the girls who tried out for the All Stars were able to make the team. The girls were Brittany Harpster, Cynda Ormsby, Danielle Winkleman, Brittany Detwiler and Jessica Markel. These girls can attend a New Year’s parade in London.
The girls are coached by Detwiler and Brenda Markel.
