The Tyrone JV football team traveled to Huntingdon and lost 20-14 to the Bearcat JV team.
Tyrone dominated at times behind the running of Josh Bradley and Shayne Tate who combined for 102 yards rushing. The Eagles moved the ball 54 yards on nine plays as Bradley bulled in from the three with 5:43 to go in the first quarter.
Huntingdon came right back with their own drive of 71 yards, aided by two 15-yd penalties to tie the score at six on Andy Young’s 27 yd run.
Tyrone then put together an impressive 12-play 62-yard drive and ate almost five minutes of clock capped by Shayne Tate’s six-yard scamper to go ahead 12- 6. A fake PAT resulted in a two-point conversion pass from Russell Beck to Jason Reese to make it 14-6.
Huntingdon took the kickoff and put on a time consuming drive only to come up empty with three minutes to go in the half.
Tyrone took over from their own 15 and went three plays before a fumble was recovered by the Bearcats at the Tyrone 20, with 1:32 left.
Three plays later Brode scored on a 10-yard plunge.
“That was the momentum swing,” Coach Darren Elvey said. “We had great momentum and we can\’t hold on to the ball.
“Penalties and mental mistakes hurt us.”
Tyrone was flagged six times for 56 yards in penalties.
Huntingdon broke the tie with :58 seconds left in the third on a nifty nine-yard pass from Nick Long to Young to make the final score 20-14.
Tyrone went to the air in the fourth quarter as Tyler Golden threw 10 times completing four including a potential game tying grab by Ethan Etters who hauled in a 41-yard bomb but was caught at the 24 yd line with 1:33 left in the game. The game ended with a pass to Steve Catich that came a yard short of the first down.
Coach Elvey stated that “We will coach-em up and try to improve each week.”
