Howard C. “How’D”, “H.C.”, “Pappy” Caber, 82, of Bellwood died Thursday afternoon at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital.
He was born January 26, 1923 in Altoona, a son of the late William J. and Sarah Rebecca (Brunner) Caber. He married Wanda Waters on May 5, 1950 in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Caber is survived by his wife of 55 years; sons: Randy H. of Altoona, Baron J. and wife Beth of Huntersville, NC, and MSGT. Kevin S. and wife, Angela of Columbia, IL: daughter: Bonnie McMillen and husband, Tim of Tyrone RD 2; grandchildren: Randy, Jr. and Misty Caber, Matthew and Adam McMillen, Ryan, Shaun and Justin Caber, Kristen and Jennifer Williams, and Alexis and Rhett Caber; brothers: Raymond of Anderson, CA and Woodrow Wilson of Tucson, AZ; also by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald “Fran” on January 14, 2004 and brothers: Millard, Donald, Charles and Walter and an infant sister.
Mr. Caber retired in 1982 as a brakeman at the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was an Army veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Caber was a 1942 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Mr. Caber was a member of the VFW in Altoona, Bellwood and Melbourne, FL and AARP.
He enjoyed playing horseshoes, hiking, tinkering with automobiles, and watching sporting events on television with his family.
He enjoyed playing pranks on his family members and especially enjoyed his family vacations at the beach.
Mr. Caber was a loving and devoted caregiver to his wife.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, September 18 at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 19, 2005 at the funeral home with missionary Jean Ewing officiating.
Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
