The Tyrone tennis squad dropped a pair of matches earlier in the week with both played at the Clay Avenue courts.
On Monday, the Lady Eagles number two doubles tandem of Cynda Ormsby and Brittany Harker defeated their opponents 9-8 in an exciting tie breaker in a pro set for the Tyrone girls only win during a 6-1 setback to Huntingdon.
Then on Wednesday, the Hollidaysburg girls decisioned the Lady Eagles 7-0.
“Of course, the highlight of the match against Huntingdon was the doubles win,” said Tyrone tennis coach Mike Hample. “We were competitive in both of the doubles matches. Cynda and Brittany did a great job in staying with the Huntingdon girls and then finally outlasting them for the win. The girls really played some great tennis.”
On Wednesday, the Lady Eagles began the second cycle of play in the Mountain Athletic Conference with a home match against the Lady Tigers.
Becky Swann at the number one singles position fought valiantly before dropping the decision 1-6, 4-6 and both doubles teams (Swann and Chelsey Swayne, and Ormsby and Harker) made their matches interesting before falling to more experienced foes.
“Despite the scores in these matches, we were much more competitive than the first time we played Hollidaysburg,” said Hample. “Hopefully we will continue this trend as we meet the other schools for the second time.”
