From start to finish the Tyrone Golden Eagles Junior Varsity football team dominated the Eagles from Bald Eagle Area in a 25-6 triumph at Tyrone’s Gray-Vets Memorial Field.
BEA turned the ball over on their third play from scrimmage when Brady Williams stepped in front of a BEA receiver and intercepted the pass, which led to a 10-yard touchdown run by Shayne Tate just three minutes into the game. The Eagles put together another drive to end the first quarter highlighted by two long passes from Tyler Golden to Shane Emigh, the second one being the 21-yard touchdown strike to make it 13-0.
As the skies opened up and Rita shed its tears, Bald Eagle Area ran five plays before Solomon Beck recovered a fumble to stop the momemtum.
“We challenged the kids to be ready for whatever the conditions were and they really came through.” said head coach Darren Elvey after the game. “I am so proud of these kids.”
A dazzling kickoff return by Shane Emigh to start the third quarter netted 52 yards and Tyrone went to work from the BEA 23-yard line. Three runs by Tate including his 20 yard burst for the score, put the Eagles up 19-0 just 1:30 into the third.
BEA had the ball just two plays before Josh Bradley pounced on a loose ball and Tyrone set up shop on their own 42.
Golden gained 13 on first down and then Tate added 10 more but all that vanished as the slippery field took its toll, as the Eagles lost 12 and 10 yards to force a punt. Dustin Rudasill\’s punt caromed off a Bald Eagle Area receiver into the arms of Emigh at the Tyrone 20. A 24-yard halfback pass from Tate to Russell Beck took them to the BEA-2 and Bradley went in from there.
“We wanted to run that play and thought that was a good place to run it.” Elvey said.
BEA put together a nice drive of 42 yards ending on a 20 yard run to cap the scoring.
Shayne Tate led Tyrone runners with 83 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Tyler Golden completed three of five pass attempts for 68 yards and one score. Shane Emigh had two catches for 58 yards and a TD. Tate was one-of-one for 24 yards. Russell Beck had one pass reception for 24 yards.Josh Bradley ran five times for 10 yards and a TD and grabbed one pass for 10 yards
Tyrone, which scored one touchdown in each quarter, is now 3-1 and plays at Philipsburg-Osceola next Monday.
