Another person has been arrested as a result of an investigation that led to a drug bust last week.
Previously, the investigation had resulted in the apprehension of seven other suspects.
Blair County Drug Task Force agents seized evidence last Friday at a trailer belonging to Michele Thompson in Greenfield Township. Authorities revealed that 233 packets of heroin, 16.2 grams of brick heroin, 44 rocks of crack cocaine and a safe were seized at Thompson’s trailer in RD 1, Claysburg. The search and seizure of evidence led to Thompson’s arrest yesterday.
In addition to Thompson’s arrest, authorities arrested two New York men, Nathan McDonald and Andy Brown, along with Joshua Thompson of Altoona, on additional charges. Those men had already been arrested as a result of a search and evidence found at a downtown Tyrone apartment.
That investigation led to the seizure of 17.2 grams of brick heroin, $2,300 in cash, drug paraphernalia; including a coffee grinder and 500 empty heroin packets.
Charges for all four suspects were filed yesterday before Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller stemming from the evidence at the trailer. The charges are as follows: possession with the intent to deliver, heroin and crack cocaine; possession of a controlled substance, heroin and crack cocaine; possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with the intent to deliver drug paraphernalia along with two counts of criminal conspiracy.
McDonald, Brown and Joshua Thompson were remanded to Blair County Prison where they had been jailed after their previous arrests last week. Michele Thompson was sent to the prison in lieu of $75,000 bail after being arraigned before Judge Miller.
Last week’s search and seizure of evidence at the downtown Tyrone apartment led to the arrests of Brown, McDonald, Thompson and two other men, Andrew Brown and Jamel Jones, both of Brooklyn, NY.
Preliminary hearings regarding the new charges were scheduled for next Tuesday. However, those hearings could be delayed since separate attorneys need to be appointed for each person. All four suspects are seeking to use counsel from the county’s public defender’s office.
Two rural Tyrone men were also arrested as part of last week’s drug sweep. Michael H. Woomer, Jr. and James Woomer, both of RD 3, Box 39, Apt. 1, waived their right to a preliminary hearing earlier this week. Their cases were moved to the Blair County Court of Common Pleas. James Woomer was remanded to Blair County Prison while Michael Woomer was released on $25,000, 10 percent bail.
The Woomers were charged after a search at their residence turned up 85 packets of heroin.
