The Tyrone girls volleyball squad started the second cycle on a good note on Wednesday evening with a straight set win over Bald Eagle Area.
The Lady Eagles improved their over overall record to 16-7 and the MAC log to 7-2 with three closely-fought games 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21.
Emily Lloyd had 10 kills for the Lady Eagles, Stefani Bryan had 11 service points, Marissa Hoover added 21 digs, Ashley Roth contributed five blocks and Kim Cherry had 16 assists.
“We got a win on the road, and that is always a challenge,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “We didn’t serve particularly well as a team tonight. We did get a strong service from Stefani Bryan. She made the difference in three close games. She was able to come up with key points at times when Bald Eagle Area would get close and run off a few points to help us keep the lead. We did a good job passing the ball and that also was a difference maker in close situations.
“Now we have to go to Huntingdon on Monday. They are undefeated in league play again and always present a challenge. We will try to give them a run for their money.”
The Bald Eagle Area junior varsity won two straight games, 25-23 and 25-20. The Tyrone jayvees fall to 4-6.
Tyrone travels to Huntingdon on Monday and Mount Union on Wednesday with both matches beginning at 6 p.m.
