The Tyrone Area high school girls tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Huntingdon on Tuesday.
The number two doubles tandem of Brittany Harker and Katelynn Cushion won their match 8-1 in a pro set for the Lady Eagles only victory. Harker also teamed with Cynda Ormsby in the first meeting of the 2005 season between the two schools for the only Tyrone triumph in a 6-1 defeat on Sept. 19.
First-year Tyrone tennis coach Mike Hample singled out the doubles win and the singles performance of both Becky Swann at the number one spot and Chelsey Swayne at the number four singles spot for their efforts. Swann lost to Huntingdon’s Jenny Wang 6-1, 6-1 and Swayne dropped 6-2 and 6-3, matches to the Lady ‘Cats Courtney Tomlinson.
“That doubles win by Brittany and Katelynn was big,” explained coach Hample. “Becky Swann and Chelsey Swayne both worked hard and were very competitive in their matches at Huntingdon on Tuesday.”
