Mr. Gordon G. Lykens, age 83, of 1863 Adams Avenue, Tyrone, and a guest at Moran’s Nursing Home, Bellwood, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at 10:23 p.m.
He was born October 20, 1922 in Tyrone, the son of Frank and Edna Eves Lykens. On June 6, 1953 at Cocolamus, Mifflin County, he was married to Isabel M. Perna who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Edna Lykens and Karen L. Baker, both of Tyrone and two grandsons, Drew and Erik Baker, bother of Tyrone. He was preceded in death by a brother Clayton and a beloved son-in-law, Robert M. Baker, Jr.
Mr. Lykens retired October 1, 1983 after 42 1/2 years service as a car repairman in the East Altoona and Samuel Rea Shops of Conrail – PRR – and Penn Central. He was a graduate of Tyrone High School class of 1940 and served in the US Army in a Military Police Battalion in the European Theatre during World War II.
He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, of the Semper Fidelis Sunday School Class, Anderson Denny Post No. 4559 VFW, Howard Gardner Post No. 281 American Legion and the Transportation Workers Union (carman). He particularly enjoyed spending time with his family and reading the newspapers.
Funeral service for Gordon G. Lykens will be Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd with Reverend Andrew T. Bradley Sr. and Pastor T.M. Talbot Moses officiating. Interment with military flag presentation will be in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
