Finishing up what Tyrone volleyball coach Dave Eckberg described as a long week with three tough matches in as many days, the Lady Eagles traveled to Bellefonte on Wednesday.
The Lady Raiders shut out Tyrone winning three straight games, although battling adversity, the Lady Eagles took Bellefonte to the limit in two of the three games, but just couldn’t overcome a few errors at critical times.
With their starting setter getting injured in warm-ups and going to the hospital, Tyrone played valiantly, but dropped 25-23, 25-16 and 26-24 games to the Bellefonte girls.
Lindsay Christine had 11 service points for the Lady Eagles, Ashley Roth had seven kills and Ashley Noll added seven digs and reserve setter Cassandra Zimmerman had 14 assists.
“We stayed close and fought as hard as we could,” said Eckberg. “It has been a tough and tiring week with three straight matches. It is a long season, everybody has to endure some injuries, you just deal with it the best you can and move on. We don’t know how long our setter will be out. We tried the best we could, but came up on the short end. We made a few errors at critical times and that cost us dearly.”
The Tyrone junior varsity improved their record to 7-8 with a 15-25, 215-23, 15-7, three game victory, coming back strong after dropping the opening game of the set.
