The Tyrone girls volleyball teams completed a string of four straight road matches with a long trip to Lewistown on Monday night.
The Lady Eagles smashed the Lewistown girls in three straight games 25-10, 25-14 and 25-18 to improve to 18-8 overall and 9-3 in the MAC.
Emily Lloyd led the way for Tyrone with eight kills and eight digs. Kim Cherry scored 14 service points and had 18 assists. Ashley Roth added 10 service points.
“It was good to get a win on the road,” explained Tyrone volleyball coach Dave Eckberg. “But our passing wasn’t as sharp as it needs to be. We need to clean that up. We wanted to attack the middle tonight, even if we had to force it. If we hjope to beat the better teams like Bellwood or Philipsburg that’s one thing we need to do.
“Emily Lloyd was the one bright spot in our passing against Lewistown. She is very consistent, she could be a good passer in college volleyball if she continues to improve.”
The Lady Eagle junior varsity (6-7) showed no mercy in drilling the Lewistown jayvees 25-3 and 25-9 in two straight games. Cassandra Zimmerman scored 22 straight service ppints in the opening game to give the Tyrone girls a 22-0 ad vantage at the start.
Tyrone has picked up an additional match at home against Clarion on Tuesday, Oct 25 at home.
Tyrone will host undefeated Bellwood-Antis (13-0) in the Tyrone Elementary gymnasium, today, with the junior varsity match beginning at 6 p.m.
