The Daily Herald Holiday Recipe Contest was deemed a success as approximately 50 recipes were submitted from area residents.
The first place winner is Donna Glunt of Tyrone, who submitted the recipe of Boston Brown Bread.
Donna will receive a turkey and pie from Mac’s Market, a $20 gift certificate to the Tyrone BiLo, a case of water from Logan Beverage, a holiday tablecloth from G & P Dollar Stretchers, holiday dinner dishes from the Bellwood Dollar General, holiday glasses from the Tyrone Dollar General, flatware from the Tyrone Family Dollar, a holiday centerpiece from Engelman’s Greenhouse, a $30 rental card from All the Right Movies in Bellwood and a 13-week subscription to The Daily Herald.
The second place winner is P. Jane Fink of Tyrone, who submitted the recipe of Angel Cookies.
Jane will receive a turkey from Martin’s Food Market, a $20 certificate from Bellwood Hometown Market, a holiday tablecloth from G & P Dollar Stretchers, a holiday centerpiece from Alice’s Garden Florist and Gift Shop and a $30 rental card from Silver Screen in Tyrone.
A guest chef, Scott Collinash of Tyrone, visited the Herald office to take time to look over the recipes and decide upon the winner.
The names of the recipe submissions were covered during the judging process to assure anonymity.

The first and second place recipes will be listed first in the Santa Gift Guide, followed by all of the recipes that were submitted. The Gift Guide is scheduled to appear as a supplement to the regular newspaper on November 23.
The winner of last year’s contest was Sharon Rydbom of Tipton who submitted the recipe of Russian Christmas cookies.
