Walter M. Scott, 78, of Grazierville, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at 12:05 p.m. at his residence.
He was born January 19, 1927, in Riverside, New Jersey, a son of the late Vincent and Edith (Stockton) Scott. On January 6, 1949, in Winchester, Virginia, he married Mary E. DiDomenico Williams. She died January 11, 1999.
Surviving is a daughter, Delaney “Nancy” McKennah of Grazierville, a son John R. and wife Tina of Grazierville, six grandchildren, David Waite who was responsible for the excellent care during the last two years of his illness, Brianne and Christian Alves, Lauren Waite, Kaitlin Waite and Jessica Scott, a son-in-law, William J. Waite, of State College, a brother, Dale, of Riverside, New Jersey, and a sister, Edith Elliott, of Riverside, New Jersey, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent and Harvey and a sister, Evelyn.
Mr. Scott retired on disability in 1968 from The Tyrone Daily Herald as advertising manager in the 1950s and 1960s.
Known as “Scotty” he managed Tyrone minor league baseball in the 1960s. He was politically active, having served as judge of elections for Snyder Township and helped out at the polls for many years.
He was a U.S. WWII Navy Veteran serving as a seaman second class as a radio operator aboard the Landing Ship Medium 367 in Okinawa and the Pacific Theater.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 18, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Feller Memorial Home with Rev. Norman E. Huff officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
