The area’s holiday season will officially begin tomorrow with the annual Victorian Tyrone Christmas parade, scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
The annual tree lighting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Tyrone Post Office, and WTRN will air the tree lighting and parade live.
After the parade and tree lighting, everyone is invited to visit with Santa at the Armory. Refreshments of hot chocolate and cookies will be on hand for the event.
Participants in the parade are competing for first, second and third place prizes, judged by the Rotary Club of Tyrone.
The parade line up is as follows: Tyrone Police Department, Tyrone Fire Police, Mayor Pat Stoner in a Premier Chrysler Jeep Dodge vehicle, Commissioner John Eichelberger, Tina’s Twirlers marching with music, TAHS FFA float and horses, Central PA Humane Society with animals being walked, Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Star-Lite Twirlers marching with music, Curve baseball mascot Steamer, Curve mascot Diesel Dog, AMED Ambulance, Tyrone Alliance Church youth float with singing, Dover Millionaires Inc., and Girl Scout Troop 1201 in a van with handouts.
Also, Knights of Columbus/St. Matthew’s float with music, the Salvation Army rolling kettles, TACO collecting canned goods, Cougars Pee Wee Football float/truck, Pam’s Chargers marching with music, Neptune Fire Company, Cub Scout Pack 300 float, Tyrone Armory, DelGrosso’s Amusement Park float, Bald Eagle Fire Company, Lone Wolf Trolley and Bus Tours, Inc., Tyrone Area Key Club float with music, American Red Cross, TAHS cheerleaders, Dream Twirlers Baton Group, Warriors Mark Fire Company and Tipton Fire Company.
The holiday season will be ushered in with Santa Claus riding on Dave and Linda Hershey’s mounted perching horse sleigh. According to Dave Hershey, this is the tenth year they have participated in the parade.
He said they will be arriving at the Tyrone American Legion parking lot at 4 p.m. to get the horses ready for the big event. If anyone is interested, the public is welcome to watch as they get ready for the parade.
The line up is subject to change up to the time of the parade.
