The Bellwood-Antis community has been coming together for the annual community picnic for the past 86 years.
The gathering is filled with entertainment, games, prizes, bingo, fireworks and recently, even a Star Search competition.
Eighty-six years after its inception, the Bellwood-Antis Community Picnic Committee is asking residents to get creative and help design a logo that will symbolize the community and picnic, both in the past and present.
This is a chance for individuals to use their creativity to design a symbol that will represent the Bellwood-Antis community, not to mention, the top four entries will receive cash prizes.
The contest is open to all residents of the Bellwood-Antis community and alumni, although committee members are not eligible to participate.
One design per contestant may be submitted. Designs must be in black and white only, using paint, markers, pens, ink or pencils.
The artwork must be of the artist’s own creation. It may not be copied or duplicated from previously published art including paintings, drawing or published photographs.
The logo should be placed on 9 by 12 inch white poster board.
Any lettering on the logo must be readable.
Once individuals have designed their logo, they should be turned in on the specified dates at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library.
Entries will be accepted on Saturday, March 25 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Monday, March 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
When submitting an entry, participants will be required to fill out a certificate of entry and disclosure of copyrights.
Names of the artists will remain unknown to judges until all judging is complete.
Logos will be judged on originality, theme orientation and adaptability to printing purposes.
There will be an initial judging of entries by an outside special panel of judges, after which, four finalists will be chosen.
The finalists’ work will be on display at the 2006 Bellwood-Antis Community Picnic, at which time, residents will be able to choose the winners.
Prizes will be awarded with first place receiving $100, second place receiving $75, third place receiving $50 and fourth place receiving $25.
