The Bellwood-Antis wrestling teams traveled to Northern Bedford County High School for their first road match on Tuesday evening. The varsity managed just two wins in absorbing a 60-10 loss to Northern Bedford.
In the varsity match, Northern Bedford got a pair of decisions at 130 and 135, before Bellwood-Antis broke through with their first win.
Josh Ervine controlled the match at 140, winning by a 13-2 major decision over Zach Hart. Ervine (6-0)took Hart down in the opening period and turned him twice for two-point nearfalls. In the second period, Ervine reversed Hart to jump the score to 8-0 after two periods. Finally in the third stanza, Hart took the top position and Ervine picked up another reversal and added three back points, before Hart scored a reversal of his own at the buzzer.
With the match beginning at 130, Justin Claar put Brandon Beech on his back with 15 seconds remaining in the match to earn a 3-0 win. Jared Mellott shut out Ricky Shawley 9-0, at 135.
At 152, Bellwood-Antis junior Ronnie Wilson picked up the second win for the Blue Devils. Wilson (4-3) moved past the .500 mark by decking Ethan Boyd in the final period. Wilson scored a takedown in the first period and escape in the second. In the final two minutes, Boyd started the period with an escape, before Wilson took Boyd down and pinned him at the 4:54 mark to slice the Northern Bedford lead to 13-10 at the time.
Northern then put the match out of reach in the upper weights. Luke Weber pinned Mike Ballard (1-4) in 1:24 at 160, Dylan Snowberger pinned Josh Keagy (0-2) in 0:41 at 189, Will Grace decked Cody Smith (0-4) in 1:04, at 215 and Eshelman pinned Kris Morder (0-4) in 1:39 at heavyweight.

Eli Colyer (1-1) took a 4-1 advantage after the first period, at 125, on a pair of takedowns, but Dan Oberman came back with a reversal and three-point nearfall in the middle stanza tro jump into a 6-4 lead and then traded two takedowns for two Colyer escapes in the third period for a 10-6 win to close out the dual meet.
“Even some of our experienced kids went out and lost today,” commented B-A coach Ron Wilson. “There were probably four or five matches that we could have won that we came out on the short end. I think the more they get into competition, the more they settle in, we won’t lose many of those kind of matches. We know where we need to go. It will come, we just need some time.”
In the junior high match, the Blue Devils won four of five to jump out to a 30-9 lead. Northern Bedford attempted to come back, even taking a temporary 35-30. Bellwood-Antis picked up a fall at 138, that pushed the Blue Devils back into the lead again and received three forfeits at the end of the match to insure the victory.
Ben Martinez (250), Danny Noye (85), Levi Hollen (155), Caleb Stevens (185) and Jim Watters (210) picked up wins by forfeit. Adam Davinsizer (95), Tyler McCracken (100), Buddy Shaw (105) and Kyle Canfield (145) pinned their opponents.
