The Bellwood-Antis boys basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Portage Mustang squad in the consolation final of the annual County Seat Tournament at the Bishop Carroll High School in Ebensburg.
John Bridges scored 21 points and Brian Brunnet added 11 as Portage outscored Bellwood-Antis 37-14 in the second half to easily take the 54-35 victory to improve to 5-2.
The Blue Devils drilled five three-pointers in the game, two each by Ben Hatch and Blaze Winterstein, but couldn’t avoid their second straight loss in the tournament.
Winterstein was high for Bellwood-Antis with nine points, and Hatch added eight.
In the tournament opener on Monday night, in a battle of Devil mascots, the Central Cambria Red Devils ran away with what had been a close contest with 26-14 and 23-6 scoring margins in the middle two periods to defeat the Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils 79-56.
Central Cambria led just 18-16 after the first quarter, and Bellwood-Antis controlled the fourth quarter 20-12, but the damage done by the Red Devils in the second and third quarters was too much to overcome.
Paul Christner had 11 points for Bellwood-Antis, with L. J. Seidel adding 10 and Alan Wertz nine.
Mike Gowan led Central Cambria with 26 points followed by Justin Davidson with 17 and Zach Seymour with 14.
Central Cambria won the County Seat Tournament championship to remain undefeated at 8-0, defeating Bishop Carroll 89-65. Gowan, scored 21 points and collected the tournament MVP Award, and Davidson added 20 points for Central Cambria.
Jeff Minemyer scored a tournament high 41 points, in a losing cause for Bishop Carroll in the championship finals.
