On Saturday, February 11, beginning at 11:30 a.m., the Tyrone Majorette Boosters are hosting a tournament of bands indoor competition.
There will be 18 competing units as well as the Tyrone majorettes. Out of town scholastic participants are from Central Mountain, Forest Hills, Dubois, Windber, Glendale, Bald Eagle Area and Clarion University from Pennsylvania and Alleghany, Maryland. Participating in the independent division will be the Wolf’s Twirlers.
The afternoon will feature majorettes, color guards, a drumline and a dance team. Special performances will include seniors Kristen Gurekovich and Amanda Miller. Opening the show at 11:30 a.m. will be a national three baton champion Lynsey Watters and at 11:40 a.m. Clarion University’s feature twirler, Lea Morrissey.
The Tyrone Majorettes are scheduled to perform at 12:15 p.m. The 2006 indoor show for Tyrone is “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas.
Members of the squad include seniors Kristen Gurekovich and Amanda Miller. Other squad members are Ashley Cowher, Alyssa Cox, Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, Annie Daughenbaugh, Ashley Shuey, Taylor Goss, Danielle Romano, Meghan Miller, Lacey Bennett and Christina Shultz.
The majorette instructors include Missy Watters, Amy Miller, Nicole Cartwright and Carol Riley.
The drill design and teacher is Kevin Isenberg with choreography and body work by Larry Johnston.
Aaron Patterson is band director and Merle Ammerman is advisor.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and students.
On Sunday, February 12, the majorettes are also hosting a twirling unlimited competition beginning at 10 a.m. with dancing, followed by show twirling, modeling and various individual performances in twirling.
