Mr. Frederick C. “Ted” Raffetto Sr., age 86, formerly of Grazierville and a guest at Garvey Manor, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Manor.
He was born February 27, 1919 in Punxsutawney, the son of Frederick J. and Jennie C. Bonnini Raffetto and on April 16, 1942 at St. Cosmos and Damian Roman Catholic Church, Punxsutawney, was married to Annabelle Clawson who survives. Also surviving are six children: Frederick C. Raffetto Jr. and wife Nelis, Norristown; Mary Margaret, wife of Robert Bayer, Drexel Hill; Jeanne Ann, wife of Michael Tentis, Madison, WI; Mark P. Raffetto and wife Karen, Tyrone; Christine, wife of James Farnsworth, Emmaus and Joan, wife of Donald Cramer, Morrisville; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Albert D. and wife Jean of Pleasant Gap and a sister, Frances, wife of Robert Straitiff of Florida. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael David and a brother Paul Raymond.
Mr. Raffetto was a graduate of St. Cosmos and Damian High School Class of 1937 and from Duquesne University Class of 1941 with a degree in Business Administration and Accounting. He served as a Captain in the Pacific Theater in the US Army infantry from 1942-1947 and was a member of the reserves from 1947 until 1953. While in Punxsutawney he was a co-owner of Raffetto’s Restaurant along with his brother Albert. The Raffettos moved to Tyrone in 1957 and Mr. Raffetto owned and operated the Wren Insurance Agency until his retirement April 1, 1990.
He was a member of St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus No. 1218 and was a fourth degree member of Bishop Garvey Assembly of Altoona. He was a former member and past president to the Tyrone Improvement Corporation, a former member of the Tyrone Kiwanis Club, a member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, of Tyrone Elks Lodge No. 212 and of Howard Gardner Post No. 281 American Legion. He was an avid reader.
Funeral Mass for Frederick C. “Ted” Raffetto Sr. will be Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph T. Orr as celebrant followed by flag presentation and interment at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Richard H.
