Fans of the CBS soap opera “Guiding Light” may have noticed a familiar face in past weeks as Tyrone native Marcy Behrens was recently cast to portray Elizabeth “Lizzie” Spaulding on the daytime drama.
The longest running drama ever, “Guiding Light” has entertained radio and television fans for 69 years. The show originally premiered on June 30, 1952 but the series began for radio listeners in January 1937.
Behrens, who moved to New York after graduating from Tyrone Area High School, changed her name to Marcy Rylan.
She made her series debut last Tuesday, February 7.
However, this isn’t Rylan’s first time in front of a camera. Before coming to daytime TV, she worked on a commercial for the Pennsylvania Department of Health and a layout in “Seventeen” magazine. She also shot two national spots for MTV.
Rylan guest starred on the Nickelodeon hit “Drake & Josh” and has appeared in several national network commercials.
She boasts a lead role, playing Winnie, in the 2006 cheerleading film “Bring It On 3”. In the film, she stars alongside Beyonce’s sister, Solange Knowles and Hayden Panetiere, who also played Lizzie on “Guiding Light”.
According to the official “Guiding Light” website, Rylan completed a two-year acting program at the William Esper Studio and is currently attending college on a part-time basis.
She enjoys dancing, yoga, Pilates, horseback riding, and hiking. Rylan loves animals. She also has a passion for community service and frequently volunteers with NY Cares and LA Works.
