Blair County Head Start provides a high quality preschool program for children ages three to five with the goal of preparing children for success in school and in life beyond.
Support services are also offered to families and enrollment is based on eligibility requirements. Head Start is located in 11 centers throughout Blair County and is actively recruiting for 2006-2007.
The Tyrone center is located at Industrial Park and currently has three classroom options: three-hour morning class, three-hour afternoon class and seven-hour full day class.

In celebration of “The Week of the Young Child”, children attending the Blair County Head Start program in Tyrone painted flower pots and potted plants for the residents at Epworth Manor. The children will visit the residents and deliver their gifts on Friday, April 7. Other activities on the schedule include a magic show at Tyrone Elementary School and art work displayed at Gardners Candies and Sheetz.
The Tyrone Area School District, Blair County Head Start and community preschools are celebrating “Week of the Young Child” April 2 through April 8 to recognize the needs of young children and thank educators and others involved in building better futures for all children.
“Week of the Young Child” is celebrated across the country by hundreds of local organizations working to improve opportunities for all young children.
“Week of the Young Child” is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Founded in 1926, NAEYC is the largest organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of early education programs for children birth through age eight. NAEYC has nearly 1,000,000 members and a national network of over 300 local, state, and regional affiliates.
“Week of the Young Child” is an opportunity for early childhood programs across the country, including child care and Head Start programs, preschools and elementary schools, to hold activities to bring awareness to the needs of young children.
The Tyrone Area School District, Blair County (Head Start) and community preschools are sponsoring programs and activities to celebrate and recognize young children and their families.
Also, preschoolers’ artwork is currently being showcased in windows of Tyrone businesses during “Week of the Young Child”.
This “Week of the Young Child” celebration is the first of many community projects planned through the collaborative efforts of the Tyrone Partnership for Quality Pre-Kindergarten Programs Committee.

THE MAGIC WAND
Ingredients:
1 large pretzel stick
1 small jar peanut butter
Cup of chopped nuts, sprinkles or mini chocolate chips
Utensils: Waxed paper and a knife
Step 1 – Place waxed paper on counter top or table and place chopped nuts in the middle
Step 2 – Dip the end of the pretzel stick into peanut butter and coat well
Step 3 – Roll the peanut butter end in the chopped nuts which have been placed on waxed paper
Step 4 – Make a wish with your wand and enjoy.
