A Warriors Mark woman has been selected by the Huntingdon County Commissioners to head the occasionally troubled Children & Youth agency.
Joyce Zolten is currently working out her notice to her current employer — Huntingdon’s Raystown Developmental Services — and will soon take the position as director.
“There were three qualified candidates,” said Commissioner Larry Sather, indicating that Zolten would be best suited to run children’s services.
“I am honored and looking forward to working with individuals who have made a commitment to improve and protect the children in our community and society,” Zolten said.
“I know there will be many challenges along the way, but with the help of the experienced and dedicated staff, we as a team, will continue to provide quality of services to the individuals of Huntingdon County.”
Most recently, county chief probation officer Tim Guisler has been “acting” director of C&Y while the commissioners were in the process of selecting a new director.
Guisler accepted the temporary assignment after the quick departure a couple months ago of then director Margaret Kough. The commissioners never directly commented on the reason or reasons Kough left the agency.
Zolten has been a resident of Huntingdon County since 1984. Her husband, Jerry, is a professor at Penn State University, Altoona Campus, and a son, Zachary, attends PSU.
