One area business continues going strong after recently changing hands.
Nancy Eyer cut hair in Northwood at her Mane Street Salon for over two decades. She recently decided to pursue other interests and approached another local hairdresser about taking over the salon.
Ivy Leonard-Hamp has been cutting hair for almost a decade herself. She was working at Master Cuts in the Logan Valley Mall when Eyer called her about the salon.
“She called out of the blue and said do you want this?” said Leonard-Hamp, “and it was a great opportunity.”
Leonard-Hamp started working out of Mane Street Salon on July 1. She said she kept the name because she wanted to respect the current customers and a lot of Eyer’s clients continue to visit the shop. Some of her own Altoona clients have also made the transition and now travel to the Tyrone shop.
Haircuts for men, women and kids are available at Mane Street Salon. Other services include color, perms, roller sets, highlights and foils. Leonard-Hamp said she specializes in clipper fades.
Men and children’s cuts are $6 and women’s cuts are $12, which includes a shampoo, cut and style.
Color is $30 and a perm is $42, both including the haircut.
Appointments can be made Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling 684-2265. Walk-ins are also accepted on Saturdays.
Later on, Leonard-Hamp says she hopes to add Tuesday hours.
“I just want to let everyone know that personally, this is what I’ve always wanted to do,” said Leonard-Hamp, “I enjoy it very much, it’s who I am.”
Leonard-Hamp is a 1996 graduate of Tyrone Area High School. She lives in the area with her husband, Robert Hamp and their two sons, nine-year-old Robbie and six-year-old Memphis.
