Dr. Samuel L. Lake, age 95, a guest at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, and formerly of Warriors Mark died Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 11:40 p.m. at the Manor.
He was born February 6, 1911 in Mount Lebanon, Allegheny County, the son of Samuel M. and Lois E. Boyd Lake. On October 24, 1940 in Alexandria, he was married by Reverend A.A. Love to Edna M. McMahan who preceded him in death April 4, 1990.
He is survived by two children: William S. Lake and wife Donna of Lewistown and Dr. Carol L. Lake of Hummelstown; two grandchildren: Tiffany Lake of Philadelphia and William Lucas Lake of Lewistown and one brother, Thomas Lake of Lewistown.
Dr. Lake practiced dentistry in Tyrone for over 53 years. He was a graduate of Huntingdon High School; received his B.S. degree from the University of Pittsburgh and was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry. He was a member of the American Dental Association. He had been a member of Pittsburgh Lodge No. 582 F & AM for over 50 years; was a member of the Jaffa Shrine, the Jesters and the Altoona Consistory. He was a member of and had served for many years as Secretary of the Ancient Gastronomic Order of Rattling Reptiles. He served as secretary of the Board of Directors of the Tyrone Hospital during the construction of the hospital and had served on the Board of Directors of the First Blair County National Bank. Many years ago he was very instrumental in getting fluoride added to the Tyrone water supply. Dr. Lake was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tyrone.
During World War II, Dr. Lake served as a Captain in the Army Air Corps.
Funeral service for Dr. Samuel L. Lake will be Friday, July 21, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Robert Dunkelberger officiating. Private interment to follow in Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery. Friends may call at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m.
