The Tyrone Community Players presents in dinner theater Meshuggah-Nuns!, the hilarious Broadway alliance of four Catholic Nuns and a Jewish actor tonight and tomorrow. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. at the Tyrone American Legion.
Meshuggah-Nuns! take Goggin's singing and dancing Little Sisters of Hoboken aboard a "Faiths of all Nations\" cruise. While on the cruise almost everyone on board, including the ships cast of Fiddler on the Roof become ill. In this self-proclaimed "Ecumenical Nunsense" the show must go on, and upon the personal request of the ships Captain, the Nuns join Howard Liszt, also known as Reb Tevye, to carry out the performance of an original musical revue.
The combination of Sister Amnesia (played by Sara Slep) who is always forgetful, Sister Robert Anne (played by Darcy Wilson), the trouble-maker from Brooklyn, Sister Hubert (played by Nancy Sloss) the serious nun, and Reverend Mother (played by Cindy Bennett) a former tightrope walker in the circus with Howard Liszt (played by Steve Helsel) generates laughter at levels that should only be legally permissible in International waters, but it also eventually encourages happy and comic resolution of misunderstandings held between these representatives of two historically interconnected yet divided religious sects. All together, you have a fun, zany group of characters that will make you seasick with laughter.
Jewish and Catholic humor abound, Goggin has Howard sing "If I Were A Catholic" to the melody of his characters more well known Fiddler tune, he spoofs the Village People with a duty-free shopping rendition of "Matzo Man", he plays on the religious commonality of guilt found between the Nuns and Howard with another gift from Fiddler: "Contrition", and he returns us to land at the close the of the final curtain with two ensemble tunes Rock The Boat and Anchors Aweigh.
Critics say, "A laugh riot! " — CBS News; “Hilarity reigns supreme!” — The Villager; “A match made in heaven” — Connecticut Post; “Madcap!” — American Jewish World and “Zany and wholesome” — The Catholic Spirit.
