Journey to Bethlehem
New Life Assembly of God, located at the Pinecroft Exit of I-99, invites families to experience a Journey to Bethlehem Village now through August 18 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Find out what it was like to walk where Mary and Joseph walked as you see a re-enactment of their pilgrimage, eat the foods of Bible times, make perfume from Frankincense, and feed the donkeys and goats. Sing the music of Jesus\’ time, make Bible-time musical instruments, work in the carpentry shop, and learn why we have a Savior. Pre-register by calling the church office at 949-9282 or register at the door on the 14th. A nursery is provided for children under three.
Car wash
Girl Scout troop 1210 will hold a free car wash on August 19 from noon to 4 p.m. at Johnny on the Spot in Greenwood.
The girls will accept donations. All donations will be used to cover the cost of their vest and registration fee for the year.

Trip to Little League World Series
The Warriors Mark Little League is sponsoring a trip to the Little League World Series on Saturday, August 19. Arrangements have been made with Fullington Bus Company to depart from the Warriors Mark Church parking lot at 9 a.m. to travel to Williamsport and to return in Warriors Mark at 9 p.m. Parking will be available at the Warriors Mark Little League field. Anyone interested in attending should contact Julie Brenneman, League Secretary, at 632-7675.
Hymn/praise sing
The Northwood Baptist Chapel will be having a hymn/praise sing August 19 at 5 p.m. at the church. There will be special music performed by members of the church and congregation. The public is welcome. Invite your friends.
After the sing, there will be a social at the activity center with hot dogs and covered dishes. Come and enjoy an evening of singing praises to God and then sitting and enjoying each other’s company with a meal.
Program at Community Worship Center
Watchman Fellowship, A Ministry of Christian Discernment, has scheduled a program entitled “Counterfeit Christianity” at Community Worship Center, 1300 Bald Eagle Avenue, Tyrone on Sunday, August 20 at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Bob Anderson is the director of the PA office of Watchman Fellowship. Bob hosted a TV show “Exposing the Lie” for over 10 years and has been a guest on TV and radio programs. Bob was also a contributing author of two books.
Trinity Episcopal event

Carol Stringer, a representative of the Pampered Chef catalog will be preparing some wonderful goodies for you to sample using kitchen tools from Pampered Chef that make cooking easier and more fun. This isn’t just for the girls – there are many guys out there who know their way around the kitchen.

DCWV meeting
The August meeting of the Descendants of Civil War Veterans will take place on Wednesday, August 23 at 7 p.m. at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library. The speaker will be Mr. Charlie Doutt who will speak on the second US Calvary, Co. A, and their trip to West Point, New York. The public is invited to attend.
Class of 1952
The Tyrone High School class of 1952 will hold a luncheon at Joe’s Place, Vail, on Thursday, August 24 at noon.

Class of 1956
The TAHS Class of 1956 will hold their 50th reunion on August 25-26. Friday night’s gathering will be at Burgi’s Roundhouse in Altoona and Saturday’s buffet dinner and festivities will be held at the Sinking Valley Fairgrounds. Military History Speakers Series
There is a Military History Speaker Series event scheduled for Monday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Military Museum, Business Route 322, Boalsburg. The topic will be “Wilder\’s Brigade at Chickamauga”. Lieutenant Colonel Robert E. Haribson, United States Army, will discuss a historical analysis of Colonel John T. Wilder\’s infantry brigade in the Tullahoma and Chickamauga campaigns of the American Civil War in 1863. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free.

The Chicago Rivet retirees will hold their monthly breakfast at Joe’s Place at 8:30 a.m.

Sight and Sound Theatre trip
The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church is sponsoring a trip to the Sight and Sound Theaters in Lancaster for the “Miracle of Christmas” show on Tuesday, November 14.
Stirring live vocals performed by a cast of 60, live animals, magnificent staging and special effects, and a heart-soaring finale highlights this joyfully reverent tribute to the birth of “God with us”, Immanuel.

TCP announces audition dates for A Christmas Caroled
The Tyrone Community Players will be the temporary inhabitants of the historic Mishler Theater for a creative, musical retelling of the classic Dickens’ ghost story.
With an original adaptation and score by Tyrone resident Will A. Jones, The TCP presented the premier of this seasonal spectacular in 1999.
Auditions for this wonderful holiday musical will be held in The Building, home of the TCP, located at 1019 Logan Ave., Tyrone on Sunday and Monday, September 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. Please be prepared with a vocal audition. An accompanist and CD player will be available for your use. If you do not have a prepared piece of music, a song from the show will be taught for your audition.
Performance dates for A Christmas Caroled, under the direction of Cindy Bennett and Karen Mayhew, are November 24-26 in the beautiful Mishler Theater in Altoona.

A Child’s Garden Preschool, located at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren, has a few openings for children ages three to five-years-old, for the 2006-07 school year.

Tyrone Salvation Army now open
The Tyrone Salvation Army is now open at its new location at 908 Pennsylvania Avenue, Tyrone. It’s open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Tyrone Salvation Army always accepts clothing and food items. It also accepts appliances, bedding, etc. It is currently in need of children’s clothing.

Home Nursing Agency holds grief support group
Home Nursing Agency is holding a grief support group designed for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Join the Agency’s grief counselors as they discuss and share with others who are experiencing similar situations.
The group will meet the first Sunday of the month from 4 – 5 p.m. through December 3. The meetings will be held in Altoona at Home Nursing Agency’s office located at 215 Lakemont Blvd., by the Casino. Parking is available in ‘Lot D’. WMUMC Preschool
The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church Preschool, located at 1840 Centre Line Rd., Warriors Mark, is now enrolling students for the 2006-07 school year. The preschool provides a loving, creative learning environment for a child’s first preschool experience.
Programs are offered for three, four and five-year-olds, which runs September through May. Three-year-olds attend class two days a week on Tuesday and Thursday and four and five-year-olds attend class three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Singles 45 Plus
Singles 45 Plus meets every third Tuesday of the month. Interested individuals are invited to come for a meal and to socialize. Those attending would be responsible for their dinner, drinks or desserts.

Breaking Bread Ministry
The Church of the Good Shepherd wants those within the community and surrounding areas to know that Breaking Bread Ministry is on-going, not just during the Lenten season. One has only to inquire at the church or call 684-1955 between 9 a.m. and noon during the week to confirm Breaking Bread Ministry is open to all and eager to support those who request this service. The Church of the Good Shepherd has selected this ministry as a way to provide assistance, and is finding that Breaking Bread Ministry is becoming of growing interest throughout the area.
Presbyterian preschool

Brain Injury support group
The Brain Injury Support Group meets the second Thursday of every month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Altoona, 2005 Valley View Blvd., Altoona.

Inkjet cartridge collection
Wesley United Methodist Church, 1200 Logan Avenue in Tyrone, is now collecting empty inkjet cartridges for recycling. Cartridges can be brought to the church during office hours (weekdays 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.) and deposited in the collection bin.
Simply place the old cartridge in a plastic sandwich bag and deposit it in the collection bin. Most businesses simply throw their empty cartridges in the garbage so check at work to see if they would donate their would-be garbage. No large laser cartridges are accepted with this program and will not fit through the holes on the collection box.
Recycling inkjet cartridges has a positive impact on the environment. Consider the following: nearly one million inkjets are thrown into landfills every day. Less than five percent of the cartridges produced are recycled. It takes 1,000 years for the plastic to decompose.

Senior Citizens
The Warriors Mark Senior Citizens meet every first and third Thursday of the month at the Warriors Mark Firehall. Come eat, play bingo (first Thurs.) and socialize with other seniors. Reservations for lunch must be made one week before the meeting, by calling Marion Shultzaberger at 684-4878.
