Law enforcement officials conducted a drug raid during the early morning hours today in Altoona.
About 45 officers were briefed at the Frankstown Armory prior to beginning the process of arresting suspects. A release from the Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and Drug Control said the suspects would be processed at the Armory once they were arrested and then taken before Magisterial District Judge Joseph Moran at Blair County Central Court for arraignment.
An agent with the Attorney General’s office, drug task force regional director Randy Feathers told The Daily Herald that the Tyrone Police Department assisted in the investigation and the arrests being made today.
He called those involved in the drug dealings “a major heroin organization.” He said he was “confident” they had dealings in the Tyrone area as well as throughout the county.
A press conference was scheduled for 11 a.m. (past The Herald’s deadline) at the Altoona Police Department. The press release said Blair County District Attorney Richard Consiglio and other law enforcement officers were scheduled to appear to provide further details on the bust.
