Antis Township has a new business with the relocation of Steve Seltzer Honda from Altoona.
The new location opened its doors on Aug. 28, according to company president and general manager, Steve Seltzer. He took ownership of the former Saylor Honda Powersport outlet in Altoona in April 2005 and the business name was changed to Steve Seltzer Honda last fall.
In a previous interview, Seltzer said the location on Sixth Avenue was no longer adequate. He said the new store located off the Pinecroft exit of Interstate 99 was not only be a better location but provides better visibility and a better layout.
Seltzer told The Daily Herald yesterday that plans for the new location had been in the works for about a year-and-a-half. He said he purchased the building for the new location in January. Seltzer used local architects and builders and came up with a plan to build a new powersports complex. The new location has more than 14,000 square-feet of sales, service and training space. The building is just more than double in size of the previous location in Altoona.
“We have motorcycle safety training on-site through the Pennsylvania motorcycle safety program,” said Seltzer.
Seltzer also noted the business has two Honda-registered service technicians among a group of just 30 in the whole state. In all, the powersports store has four full-time technicians.
“We are picking up Aquatrax, which is Honda’s watercraft,” said Seltzer. “We’ll be adding that to our product line this fall. We are also about to become the only Honda Powerhouse dealer between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. A Powerhouse dealer is a level of commitment to Honda. We’ll be doing that once we get our Honda Riders Club chapter formed. We’re in the process of doing that right now. We’ll be running a Riders Club chapter of out this shop beginning this fall also.”
He said the new location also has an expanded selection of riding apparel, boots and helmets along with an expanded selection of motorcycles. He said the shop has more than $1 million of Honda inventory. Seltzer said the shop employs 12 people.
Steve Seltzer Honda is located at the intersection of Old Route 220 and Sabbath Rest Road. The business relocated to an already existing shell building.
Previously, Seltzer indicated the new location might not be permanent. Honda officials had advised Seltzer that most of their locations are about double the size of the new Pinecroft location.
Seltzer said 15.4 acre site in Antis Township has already been purchased for possible further expansion. He said that would happen when the business “outgrows” its current location.
