Grace Baptist celebrates 135th anniversary
On October 26, 1872, a congregation of 13 believers in the Lord Jesus Christ met for the first official service of the Grace Baptist Church.
Today, 135 years later, the Grace Baptist congregation has 138 active members and approaches 200 worshippers in its Sunday morning worship services. Although numerical growth and buildings are no biblical indictor of genuine spirituality, the congregation has maintained an unwavering reputation for being Bible teaching and preaching centered, balanced with a strong emphasis on grace and love. The congregation would like to invite the community to any of the upcoming anniversary events planned for this month.
On Saturday, October 21, at 6:30 p.m. a Church and Community Celebration Dinner and Service will be held at the Tyrone Area High School Cafeteria. This will be a “Potluck and Ham Dinner”. The Church will provide the ham, table service, drink and dessert but ask that each family bring a covered dish for all to enjoy. Special music and testimonies will follow the dinner. Dr. Milo Thompson, Director of “Christ-Way Ministries” will speak to the dinner guests.
Then, on Sunday, October 22, at 10 a.m. an Official Celebration Service will be held for all. This service is still in the planning stage, but a few highlights will include a lot of musical praise, testimonies and special guest, Representative Jerry Stern. Once again, Dr. Milo Thompson will bring the morning message.
Please note that for this Sunday there will be only one service beginning at 10 a.m. The 8:15 a.m. service and 9:30 a.m. Sunday Bible classes will not be held.
A very special children’s program is planned for this service with “Handi The Clown” and his assistant, “Strawberry” so bring the children early and get them situated for lots of fun in Jesus.
Finally, on Sunday, October 29, at 8:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and again at 6:30 p.m., beloved Pastor Allen Smith will return to Tyrone as the guest speaker. Pastor Smith served as the Pastor of Grace from 1981 to 1987. It was during that time period that an addition was built onto the church which doubled the size of the present facility.
An infant and toddler nursery will be available during Sunday services.
Remember to come early as the church will fill up fast.
For further information please call the church office at 684-5016.
