Donald E. Hopkins, 83, of Tyrone died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006 at Epworth Manor, Tyrone.
He was born May 27, 1923 in Bellwood, the son of Clara Hopkins. On Nov. 25, 1946 he was married to Thelma Elizabeth Duff, who survives. Also surviving are seven children: James E. (Carol) Hopkins of Yorkville, IL, Ronald E. Hopkins of Tyrone, Linda M. (Glenn) Stevens of Tyrone, John D. (Jane) Hopkins of Boalsburg, Margaret A. (Jim) Smith of Broken Arrow, OK, David L. Hopkins of King of Prussia and Robert W. (Brenda) Hopkins of Tyrone; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was an Army veteran of World Wart II, serving with Company A., 95th Chemical Mortar Battalion in the European Theater. He was awarded the Bronze Star at Plettenberg, Germany. Prior to World War II, he served with the Civil Conservation Corps. Mr. Hopkins retired in 1981 as a freight conductor with Conrail following 35 years of service.
Mr. Hopkins was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Tyrone.
He was a former member of Sinking Valley Country Club and a former pitcher in the Tyrone Slow Pitch Softball League.
He enjoyed family gatherings, bowling, hunting and fishing.
Funeral Services for Donald E. Hopkins will be held Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone with Rev. Barry Neal officiating. Interment will follow in Blair Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
