George P. Foster, 88, of RD 3, Tyrone died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006 at Altoona Regional Health System-Altoona Hospital Campus.
He was born Sept. 13, 1918 in Trough Creek, a son of Ernest S. and Regina (Baker) Foster. On Aug. 17, 1982 in Winchester, VA, he married Rosalie J. Bennett.
Surviving are his wife, two step-daughters: Connie Zapsky and husband Eugene of Madera and Gena Barony and husband Mark of Tyrone; two step-sons: Edgar Gearhart, Jr. and wife Madolyn of Catoosa, OK, Jerry Gearhart and wife Deborah of Madison, SD; 12 step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren and a sister Flora “Dae” Fouse of James Creek. He was preceded in death by a sister Mae Hess.
Mr. Foster retired in 1977 from New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company as a diesel mechanic and equipment operator following 24 years service. He had been employed in construction for his entire working life.
He was a member and past president of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Tyrone, a life member of the Alexandria American Legion and a member of a Masonic lodge in West Virginia.
He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving as a Technician 3rd Grade in the 1924th Engineer Aviation Battalion with service in Guam and Okinawa. George enjoyed fishing in Canada with friends.
Private services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Feller Memorial Home.
