The Tyrone Hospital Development Council has announced that funds contributed to its 6th Annual Tree of Light will be used to help purchase an upgraded hood for Tyrone Hospital’s pharmacy at an estimated cost of $12,000.
The pharmacy hood creates a germ free environment (a sort of clean room) that is required for the pharmacist to mix antibiotics, IV solutions, intravenous nutrition solutions, and other medications for hospital patients.
Randy Miles, Sr., Chairman of the Tyrone Hospital Development Council said that in 2007 some new, more stringent regulations regarding pharmacies will go into effect.
“When we learned that the hospital needed to upgrade its equipment to prepare for the new regulations, we decided to adopt it as an additional project.”
The Council also purchased orthopedic surgical equipment for the hospital this year with funds the community and area businesses donated via a golf tournament and some other small fund raisers.
Miles pointed out that Tyrone Hospital is currently restructuring under Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
“It is important for people to know that any funds donated to the Development Council will be used specifically for the projects the council has adopted.”
Miles said the Council wishes to be as supportive as possible while the hospital is going through this bumpy period.
“Tyrone Hospital continues to care for patients just as it has done for more than 50 years. We are pleased to support the hospital’s healing mission by providing equipment that supports patient care.”
Individuals may have an angel placed on the “Tree of Light” located at Tyrone Hospital in honor or in memory of a loved one or to recognize their business or organization. The donation for each name being honored, remembered or recognized is $5 or more. Individuals wishing to purchase a gift of light may do so by submitting their donation and a completed “Tree of Light” gift form to the Tyrone Hospital marketing office. Tree of Light gift forms are available in the hospital’s main lobby or by calling the marketing office at 684-6348.
The public is invited to attend the Tree of Light ceremony to be held on Monday, December 4 at 6 p.m. in the main lobby at Tyrone Hospital. The ceremony will include comments by Development Council and hospital leaders. A blessing and spiritual message will be delivered by Chaplain Joan Smith. Students from St. Matthew’s School will provide vocal selections for the event.
A reception with refreshments will be held immediately following the ceremony.
