On March 19, 1995, the congregation of First Assembly of God in Tyrone broke ground for its new building. The addition to the former structure at 12th Street and Blair Avenue included a new handicapped-accessible sanctuary and restroom facilities as well as additional office space. On September 10, 1995, the first services were held in the new 300-seat auditorium. In 1995, the church took out a loan for a mortgage on their new facilities. It was to be a 40-year loan. Through God’s faithfulness and the faithfulness of the congregation, the final payment on the building has been made after only 11 years and the church is now debt free.
A special mortgage-burning service will be held on Sunday, November 12 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a “Victory Banquet”. Special speaker for the mortgage-burning service will be Rev. Stephen Tourville, superintendent of the Pennsylvania-Delaware District of the Assemblies of God. Rev. Tourville graduated from Valley Forge Christian College in 1973 and went on to earn a Master of Arts from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, MO in 1979. In 1993, he earned his Master of Divinity degree from Evangelical School of Theology in Myerstown, graduating Magna cum laude. Prior to becoming District Superintendent, he served for 33 years, pastoring in the Pennsylvania Delaware District.
Rev. Tourville was elected District Superintendent at the 86th District Council of the Penn/Del District in 2002, replacing long-time District Superintendent, Rev. Philip Bongiorno. Rev. Glunt, pastor of First Assembly says, “Rev. Bongiorno was here to speak at the dedication of our new building in 1995. It’s nice we can invite our new District Superintendent, Rev. Tourville to Tyrone to speak at the mortgage burning service.”
Pastor Glunt invites everyone to come and join in for this service of celebration.
