At 10:30 a.m. worship on Stewardship Sunday, November 13, the 85 members of Tyrone Presbyterian Church will hear a speech, dedicate shoeboxes and sing songs as they ponder their Christian commitment.
Presbyterian Elder John Rice of Warriors Mark will open Stewardship Sunday worship with a short speech that will challenge the forty members present to consider creative new ways whereby they can commit their time, talents and personal treasuries to Christian service, throughout the community, county and country.
Later in the stewardship service, Pastor Robert Dunkelberger will offer dedication prayers for children’s Christmas shoeboxes. Presbyterian women and their friends assembled these Christmas shoeboxes full of miniature gifts and they extend a hand of charity to children in need throughout the world. Each November, over the past five years, Tyrone’s Presbyterian women have spear-headed this children’s shoebox stewardship project in conjunction with Franklin Graham’s Samaritan Purse organization.
Finally, the Presbyterian Choir will encourage worshippers to respond to the challenge of stewardship when they sing the Sunday school stewardship hymn by Howard Grose entitled, “Give of Your Best to the Master”. Inspiration for this old stewardship hymn evolved from the first chapter of Malachi wherein the Lord expressed his displeasure that His people brought stolen, crippled and sick animals as temple sacrifices to Him.
In the New Testament, Saint Paul echoed this Old Testament sacrifice theme when he penned this request in Colossians 3:23 – “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord, rather than for people.”
Presbyterian Pastor Bob Dunkelberger invites everyone in the community to join the 85 members of Tyrone Presbyterian Church this Sunday as they hear a speech, dedicate shoeboxes and sing songs under girded with this stewardship challenge hymn for 2007, “Give of your best to the Master / Give Him first place in your heart / Give, and to you shall be given / God His beloved Son gave / Gratefully seeking to serve Him / Give Him the best that you have”.
