Frank Andrew Owens, Sr., 82, of 765 Washington Ave., Tyrone, died Friday evening, Nov. 24, 2006 at Altoona Regional Health System- Altoona Hospital Campus.
He was born July 5, 1924 in Tyrone, a son of William T. and Helen Parker (Andrews) Owens, Sr. He was married June 6, 1947 in Tyrone to Patricia C. Williams.
He is survived by his wife, a son Frank A. Owens, Jr. of Pittsburgh, daughter Karen S. Owens and a son Anthony L. Owens, Sr. and his friend Elaine of Tyrone; four grandsons: John O. McGill, IV of Sydney, Australia; Anthony L. Owens, Jr. (Melissa) of Lock Haven, PA, Marcus A. Owens of Tyrone and Jamal W. Owens of Indiana, PA; two great granddaughters: Jayden Rae Owens and Demea Brinsley Owens; five sisters and two brothers: Mary Ann Martin of Montclair, NJ; Esther Hendricks of Freeport, NY; Gwendolyn Scott of NY; Francis Crawford of Huntingdon, NY; Constance Cisco of NY; Carl Owens of Hemstead, NY and Andrew Holland of Altoona, PA.
He was preceded in death by a sister Patricia and brothers Gordon, William T., Jr. and John.
He attended the Tyrone Trinity Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Tyrone American Legion and the VFW. He was a former member of the Masonic Purity Lodge # 41. He loved fishing and his boat.
He was a Navy veteran of WW II, serving in the Asian and Pacific Theatres as a Chief Petty Officer.
He retired from Penn Central Railroad as a car inspector and welder after 24 years service.
Funeral services and Flag presentation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone with Rev. Jeanne Jacobson officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
