A very busy Tyrone Area Band season continues with the holiday season.
Of course, members of the band have been involved in numerous events such as Tyrone Area High School Golden Eagle football games, concerts, parades and other performances and competitions.
There will be no rest for the weary, after tonight’s District Final game for Tyrone at Mansion Park, the Golden Eagle marching band will participate in Macy’s “Celebrate the Season” holiday parade in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
When he learned of the band’s selection, band director Aaron Patterson said, “On behalf of the Tyrone Golden Eagle Marching Band and Band Boosters, I wish to extend to you our excitement and pride in being successfully auditioned and selected to participate in the Pittsburgh Macy’s holiday parade.”
The parade, presented by Macy’s, WPXI-TV/Channel 11 and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, is scheduled to proceed through downtown Pittsburgh on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
“(The) students, parents, staff, and I are thrilled at this opportunity and look forward to representing the Tyrone community,” said Patterson.
Close to a quarter million people watch the parade live or on television. Patterson noted the parade features a handful of high school bands as well as giant character balloons, floats, national celebrities, local radio and TV personalities, and Santa Claus.
“We certainly look forward to this first-ever Tyrone participation in a live, televised holiday parade,” said Patterson, “It will be a tremendous end to our remarkable season. Please express your congratulations to the hard-working members of our 2006 Golden Eagle Marching Band if you happen see them.”
The band is also scheduled to appear in the Blair County Holiday Parade on Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. and in the Tyrone’s parade on Friday, Dec. 1 at 6:15 p.m. The alternate date for the Tyrone parade is Saturday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m., in the event of bad weather or a Tyrone Area High School playoff football game.
