As schools around the nation celebrate American Education Week through November 18, the Tyrone Area School District has a special day planned for the community this Friday.
Tyrone schools will open their doors to the community, offering citizens a chance to visit and view public education in today’s schools.
Visitation for the elementary, middle, and high schools is scheduled for Friday, November 17 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and again from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Parents, guardians and other community members who are interested in seeing what an average day is like at the Tyrone Area Schools are welcome to visit. Individuals do not need to know a student, teacher or faculty member to participate.
Visitors will be asked to sign in at the main office and will then be given a visitor’s pass. If visitors know the teacher of a particular student, they may visit that classroom. Visitors may also choose to go to a classroom based on a certain subject or activity that is being taught at that time.
This year\’s AEW theme, Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility, highlights the importance of bringing together educators, school staff, parents, students, and communities in a unified effort to build great public schools. The theme also reflects National Education Association\’s vision of calling upon America to provide students with quality public schools so that they can grow, prosper, and achieve in the 21st century.
Each day this week there is an emphasis on different individuals who help in various ways to educate our children.
Tomorrow is Education Support Professionals Day to recognize the secretaries, classroom aides, maintenance people, cafeteria workers, bus drivers and others who provide invaluable services to schools and students.
Thursday focuses on community leaders and Friday on substitute educators.
