First Assembly of God, Tyrone, will be hosting their annual Mission’s Convention February 25-28.
First Assembly is a very active mission’s church, hosting annually a spring and fall mission’s emphasis.
First Assembly has been recognized as one of the top 300 Assembly of God churches in the nation in per capita missions giving. The church currently supports 38 foreign missionaries and several stateside home missions’ endeavors.
The theme for this year’s convention will be “But God”, based on Acts 3:15 NIV, “You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead.”
The convention will feature four different missionaries and fields.
On Sunday morning, February 25, Pastor Glunt will kick off the convention with a message concerning the challenge of missions.
Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m., the speaker will be Jeff Book. Jeff and his wife Carol have lived and worked in Southwest China where for the last 20 years they have been involved in orphanages, drug rehab, children’s ministry and other outreaches to people in need.
Jeff says, “China has a booming economy, yet with many left behind; growing freedoms, but with many people searching for truth and purpose. Hearts are open and opportunities abound. God has opened doors to love, to serve and to share in ways that we ourselves never though possible even a few years ago.”
Jeff Book is from Western Pennsylvania, Carol Book from New Jersey, and their daughter Amy, now in college in the US, was born and raised in China.
On Monday, February 26, at 6:30 p.m. the speaker will be Todd LaBute.
Todd and his wife Heidi serve at the Asia Pacific Theological Seminary in Baguio City, Philippines. APTS is an international seminary that trains indigenous Christian workers for service in countries throughout the Asia Pacific region.
Todd also works with mountain churches and Heidi teaches English and works with children.
On Tuesday, February 27, at 6:30 p.m., the speaker will be Fred Howsare.
Fred and his wife Betty travel throughout Asia Pacific assisting in church planting, compassion and project ministries. They also provide funding for Asia Pacific Media Ministry and Good News Evangelism in target areas.
Then, on Wednesday, February 28, the church will hold a mission’s banquet at 6 p.m.
The speaker for the banquet will be Fred Kovach.
Fred and his wife Crystal serve as media missionaries with Global University, working with Assembly of God missionaries worldwide to provide technology tools to reach local communities with the gospel.
In many parts of the world this can be done openly, but the Kovach’s are also helping develop technologies to communicate the gospel in sensitive areas where missionaries cannot go for various reasons.
The Kovach’s also travel overseas to provide technical support to missionary television studios.
Pastor William Glunt invites everyone to come and hear these mission convention speakers.
