At the recent school board meeting, the board accepted the resignation of Dr. Rebecca Erb, High School Principal and announced the plan to cover her duties for the remainder of the 2006-07 school year.
Dr. Erb, who has been Principal of Tyrone Area High School since the fall of 1999, has accepted the position of Superintendent of Schools for the Tuscarora School District in Mercersburg, PA. Prior to serving as Principal of Tyrone Area High School, she served as Assistant Principal during the 1997-98 and 1998-99 school years. Her resignation is effective February 28, 2007 so she will be able to assume her new responsibilities on March 1, 2007.
In a letter to the Tyrone Area School District Board and Administration, Dr. Erb stated, “I deeply appreciate the many opportunities provided to me for personal and professional growth during the ten years I have been an employee of the school district. Although I have been reluctant to leave Tyrone’s students and staff, I feel it is appropriate for me at this time to pursue a broader role in the educational arena where, hopefully, I can apply what I have learned at Tyrone to the benefit of other students.”
It was announced at the recent board meeting that the school district will advertise for a new High School Principal.
However, the school district is working out a plan to cover the duties of the High School Principal for the remainder of the 2006-07 school year. According to Superintendent, Dr. William Miller, the responsibilities of the High School Principal will be divided between three administrators. Dr. Miller will handle any general administrative decisions for the high school, Assistant Superintendent Joann Lang will handle all high school curriculum decisions, and Middle/High School Special Education Supervisor Jeanne Knouse has been appointed High School Liaison for the remainder of the current school year. Mrs. Knouse will basically serve as a liaison between Dr. Miller , Mrs. Lang and the high school faculty and staff. She will also be the administrator present in the building during the school day.
This temporary administration arrangement will begin on March 1, 2007.
