Bellefonte and Tyrone christened the new gymnasium at Bellefonte Area High School Thursday night in volleyball.
The Lady Red Raiders took control of the match from beginning to end as they cruised to three straight wins (25-17-25-10 and 25-10) to take the best of five match with Tyrone.
With two matches in and hoping to improve each night, Tyrone looked to pick up their first win in a game against the heavily favored Lady Red Raiders.
Tyrone spread their scoring among the seven players in the first game as they managed to put up 17 points, their highest in regular season play.
The second and third game were still a much needed boost for the girls as they put up double digits in all three games for the first time this season. Paris Harden and Jess Thomas each had 7 service points and Kristen Fry continued her steady play with 5 digs.
“We are improving as we move throughout the year,” Tyrone head coach Jim Cushion stated. “The girls are starting to work better as a team and today they really showed me that they are capable of turning this season around and possibly picking up a few wins in the near future. This conference is very talented and our girls know that, but the girls have improved since the beginning of the year and that’s all we could ask for.”
The Lady Eagle volleyball squad dropped to 0-3 on the year, but put up their highest total of the year in a match. They will travel to Central on Monday, September 15 at 6 p.m.
